If in fact part/all/more than all of the convertible shares were hedged in advance that's good news for the current shareholders.

Show me how this "hedged in advance" stuff works. I don't think it's possible but I guess I could have missed something.

I do not know that it matters much unless you mean that there could be a hidden short position at this time. You are not saying that, are you? If DR is targetting mostly medium to small size companies to shorten the selling cycle then it would seem that shorts will have their chance to unwind their positions in an orderly manner if they choose to.
