AMD K6 Yield Issues Have Been Resolved

Further details:

- In January the K6 yield problem was resolved after some
excellent failure analysis work which resulted in isolating
the exact problem causing low yields for K6's in Fab 25
- K6 layout was reworked to improve margins for boundary conditions
- Currently, rocket lots from Fab 25 are showing yields of >70% !!!
- In 1Q98 more than 2.2MU K6 will be shipped, ~1.3MU shipped already
- In 2Q98 AMD hopes to ship around 4MU K6
- AMD execs are euphoric but understand that Wall Street is
skeptical due to their earlier blunders and so don't want to
rush into releasing the good news
- IBM agreed to the foundry arrangement only when AMD demonstrated
good yields in the recent rocket lots
- AMD process engineering folks are working hard to transfer K6
process to CS44 (.25 micron) so they can start producing >300Mhz
K6's in volume in Q3 & Q4
- AMD believes that the rapid growth of the sub-$1000 PC market has
given them a unique opportunity, which they never had before, to
gain 30%-40% market share
- AMD further believes they have really caught up with Intel on
technology - both process and processor. Name of the game now is
distribution, volume and production. So, they are really keen
to work with IBM, Compaq and other vendors
- Foundry arrangements with TSMC, UMC etc. are in the works

This info is from my sources. I personally have made money on both
AMD & Intel (and I currently hold shares of both) and so I don't
have an axe to grind with any company. I do not work for any
company mentioned above.

Please note I did not make any stock recommendations. Use this info
as you see fit. Good luck.
