Yesterday on the Radio Show "Talk of the Nation" (npr) there was a phone in interview with an Intel executive discussing the H-1 Visa shortage (sorry I didn't get his name). His point was that Intel needs more of these workers and that there are no US citizens/permanent residents available at all and without the H1 Visa these jobs would go unfilled - he said we are talking about "thousands" of positions.

Can anyone out there comment on whether this was a true statement with regards to Intel?

Fwiw, my opinion is that in the enterprise software arena this situation with foreign workers is simply a cost issue. The technology became so complex and difficult that people who could do it started to make more money, and the employers don't want to pay.

And in regards to the CEO education debate, I agree with Mary. There might be a division between the CEOs that are also founders of their firms, vs. the CEOs hired in to run the show later. Can't think of many founders that have degrees from Yale or Princeton (or anywhere) and ask them what they think of McKinsey if you want a laugh!
