Big Dog, this is your big brake!
I saw your post about The Street.com reading this thread and using (and misunderstanding) your post. I have never seen them use a rumor quote from SI before. This could be your chance to become rich and famous like Matt.

The Street.com is a pretty new service that is gaining in popularity very quickly. Brokers and real traders actually read it. They have several writers. The most famous is Jim Cramer, he has been trading for over 20 years and manages a hedge fund with almost $1 billion. He loves the drillers and has written about them many many times. He is on CNBC frequently and Good Morning America frequently. He used to post on SI (not our thread) and does live Q&A chat on Yahoo about once a month.

Mavis Scanlon is the Staff Reporter that usually writes about the Oil Patch. She is the one that wrote the article with your misquote. She tries hard, but she is a girl, so how much could she know? <G> You can email her at: feedback@thestreet.com

I'm sure that they would welcome the chance to speak with a person with your knowledge and experience. I think it would be great if you could contact them and explain the Rig Supply/Demand thing and other general information (I'm sure they wouldn't want to know the things you can't talk about). They are friends of our sector and we should try to keep it that way. You would not be helping our stocks by getting them pissed off.

You can contact them at: 1-800-562-9571 or letters@thestreet.com

Might not be a bad idea if you signed up for the Free two-week trial and read some of the past articles first.

Seriously Mike, I'm sure they would like to hear from you.

.

Now you've missed the point. You *did* write for them, intended or not, accurate or not, and you sold for them as well. Welcome to freedom of the airways. And I would add that in spite of everything, your superior expertise, compared to theirs, came through crystal clear in more ways than one.

Of course, you could argue that the market is the result of a collection of psychological feelings at any one time regarding investments in general, or a specific stock. Online discussion forums such as this one may be an indicator of that psychology. Hence the interest of the anaylysts in monitoring this forum. My question has always been 'what is the denominator?' How many people monitor this forum, hold alternate opinions, and don't speak out so that none of us knowfor sure what the true concensus out there really is. In a sense, the folks who do participate online are a herd of their own stripes. They are often preaching to the quoir. Camps are formed, and unpopular opinions often attacked. This forum has been successful because folks are for the most part polite, less arrogant regarding their views, reasonably spontaneous, more knowledgeable, and they areshare in a relatively non threatening way thier ideas. People who read the snippets that others derive from this really are missing the flavor involved, and problable will not profit from the process very much.
