Given the time frame for the first fab runs, it looks like the IBM foundry deal will be for the K6+ 3D part which is likely to benefit from the painful experience AMD has gained on the current K6. Maybe the part will be much more manufacturable and will have acceptable yields. IDTI has much more to lose if the market shifted away to Intel's so far proprietary slot 1 architecture than by AMDs increased competition if they are successful. The beautiful thing about the relative size of IDTI is that they can ride the coat tails of the overall market and need to only capture a tiny portion (3%-5% would be great) in order to have great success over the next few years. The vulnerable side to IDTI's small size is that they cannot significantly influence the direction of the market and have a yet unclear patent postiion.
