More: NEW MODEM STANDARD SETS THE STAGE FOR A CONSUMERS RUSH
February 23, 1998

Now sales of 56 kps modems are expected to stoke overall modem
sales
in North America by 27 percent in 1998, said Lisa Pelgrin,
an analyst at Dataquest Inc., a market-research firm in San Jose,
Calif.

Still, the market for 56 kps modems should enjoy a good run. The
other new technologies are a lot more expensive and won't be widely
available for years because they require a huge investment in
infrastructure, said Pelgrin. The advantage of analog modems is
"they're cheap, they're available and they're easy," she said.
"They're just not as fast."

Anyone (besides me) have the feeling that there WILL be a
rush for V.90 modem updates, but no rush for NEW V.90 modems?
