I don't think it is nearly that simple, Bill. In the fifties our culture was much smaller, and more homogenous. Most women did not work, and could stay home and take care of their children and the old people in their families. Blacks were strictly segregated. Divorce was somewhat rare, and women simply endured horrible, abusive marriages instead of striking out and trying to make their lives better. Rents for single rooms were very cheap, and teenaged runaways were rare. Communities were more cohesive.

Have you personally taken any needy people into your home?
