WOODWARD: CLINTON SAYS STARR IS A 'VERY BAD GUY' AND 'DANGEROUS'

"Behind closed doors, in emotional moments of candor with confidants, Clinton is in a 'profound rage' these days about the investigation into his relationship with Monica S. Lewinsky," Bob woodward reports in a WASHINGTON POST Sunday shocker.

"As unperturbed as he appears in public settings, they said, the president privately seethes that independent counsel Kenneth W. Starr is 'a very bad guy' and 'dangerous.'"

One Clinton friend, not named, tells Woodward: "There's a great deal of anger... But it's more than anger. There's genuine concern, even if it weren't him in the cross hairs ... that Ken Starr represents a danger in American life."

"Clinton has concluded that Starr is engaged in a moral crusade," says the paper in a story slugged: Behind Calm Air, President Hides Rage Over Starr. "The prosecutor and his staff, the president believes, are guilty of 'prosecutorial misconduct' for supposedly colluding with attorneys working for Paula Jones in her sexual harassment lawsuit, said people who have spoken with Clinton. There is 'a sense of victimization.'"

The Woodward story promises to become the complete talk of Washington, it reveals for the first time: "Clinton privately wants to find ways to thwart the Starr investigation while his attorneys build a legal defense."

"Woodward has been working on the story for sometime," an associate of the Watergate star tells the DRUDGE REPORT. [Peter Baker also did some reporting.]

"Clinton even mulls about how Starr might somehow be forced from office -- not by firing him, but by pressuring him into overstepping and letting him 'effectively fire himself.'"

I couldn't find the definition of "perjorative", so I can't say. Define please.

Until you give me some feed-back on "perjorative", I can only add that many mainstream, very popular talkshow hosts, such as David Brinkley and Jay Leno, quite regularly give very mean-spirited "just in fun" little skits and other comedic endeavors such as the "Top Ten List", which are directly aimed at ridiculing the President. Yet I don't hear ANY criticism of them.

Beyond Rush's "mean-spirited" jokes and skits (he is an entertainer after all), what is distasteful about him in your view, beyond his political leaning?

"Demagogue" is defined as "a leader who stirs up the people in order to get something for himself." That would seem to describe quite a few people, and I don't think we can say that "getting something for one's self" is could be described as evil or negative. That leaves "stirring up the people", which even in conjunction with the second part of the definition, is not to me an evil endeavor.

Most if not all media outlets, including ABC, NBC, CBS, CNN, etc, would seem to fall squarely under the realm of "demagogue", with corporate entity and its senior officers being the "leader".

Therefore, if that's all Rush is is a demagogue, I'd say he fits right in with ABC, NBC, CBS, CNN, David Brinkley, Jay Leno, and last but not least, Bill Clinton, who as a politician would be more than happy to frame his speeches with the goal to "stir up" support for Bill's agenda, Bill's legacy, Bill's popularity, etc.

In a prior post you implied that you did not believe that Walsh did certain things.

From today's WSJ:

Asides
Selective Outrage

Ken Starr has been bitterly criticized by Congressional
Democrats for having Marcia Lewis, mother of
Monica Lewinsky, testify before a grand jury. But not a peep was heard
when President Clinton's attorneys compelled Delmer Lee Corbin, mother
of Paula Jones, to give a deposition under oath last October. She was
forced to discuss in detail what her daughter may have told her about her
meeting with then-Governor Clinton. The experience wasn't pleasant and
she hid her face from cameras as she left. As for past independent
counsels, we recall that Iran-Contra's Lawrence Walsh dragged Oliver
North's wife, lawyer and even his pastor before a grand jury for
questioning. At that time, none of Mr. Starr's current critics could be heard
complaining that this was a prosecutorial abuse.
