Now Shirley, lets be fair. A majority of voters voted for Mulroney twice - in the 80's. I as a younger Canadian will pay the price for my parents abuse and overspending (and mistakes at the polls). Blame Mulroney for not having the guts to stand up to all the people who voted for him and make cuts to social programs. He was a wimp, a politician. However, if I recall correctly, if you even mentioned cuts in gov't programs in the 80's, there would be people hunting you down in effort to kill you. It was not an issue then! Fact is, it has taken years of education and preaching and people in this country still can't tell you what the difference between the deficit and the national debt is or the implications of interest rates, and how the world economy dictates those rates to the Bank of Canada. Until people fully realize how much we owe and the risks associated with it, paying it down will never happen. You are a very well educated person and you don't even know how much the debt really is ($584 billion to be exact.) You see my point....

Did I get your blood boiling a bit? No offence intended, just thought I would add a bit of spice to the chat. Now, weren't we discussing a ... um .... was it... ..oh... ...yes - a gold stock?

Take care

Ronald Regan

P.s. Now if we could just get PFG and MAD to accumulate dollars as fast as Canada accumulates debt we'd be rich!

It doesn't matter what they name the education fund. As someone who has lived in Quebec since May 1992, who has a Quebec Drivers License, Quebec Medicare Card, pays all kinds of provincial taxes to Quebec, I (as well as many thousands of others) have nevertheless been deemed "not a resident of Quebec for education purposes" by the Quebec government. This means that if the provincial government got their grubby little hands on that money it would only be distributed among good little pequistes. And you can take that to the bank! I am glad the Feds will take care of distributing cheques with Canadian flags on them. Those in other provinces need to consider what occurs beyond their own borders.

A student from BC of French descent, who speaks fluent French, took the Quebec government to court over this and lost. (McGill student).

Oh, and welcome back Shirley. You were missed.
