Unreal Stuff: If you are interested on news on Unreal check out the website unrealnation.com They collect Unreal news from all over and post it on their board. Everything I've read has been upbeat about the game, though there are some concerns that Digital Extremes (they are coding Unreal) maybe trying to push the FPS envelope too far and too fast. There are reports out on the web that you will need a minimum of 200mhz P5 system and 3d acceleration for any decent performance out this game. Given that hardware is going for rock bottom prices these days, this maybe a non-issue, but a whole bunch of folks may need to upgrade their system to play. Issue #2 is how well network play is integrated into the system. John Carmack at Id, in interview said that they designed the original Quake from the ground up, as networkable game. If the Unreal team have been adding network play as an afterthought, and network play is less responsive then Quake and games based on the Quake II engine, this may affect Unreal sales. It was because of internet death matches that Quake went from being a game to cult. Another issue with Unreal is whether GT will receive any income from games that will be based on the Unreal engine. Wheel Of Time, Unreal with a medieval motif, will definitly be based on the Unreal engine. ION Storms says Daiktana 2 will be based on the Unreal engine as well. Since GT is funding the engine development, shouldn't they receive income from games based on the Unreal engine? I'd like so the contracts on that. Also want to find out if GT will get distribution rights to Wheel of Time, which should be announced shortly. My bets are on G.O.D. getting W.O.T. - Chris
