Michael, I'm a little puzzled by your comment that the homeless problem would be blamed on Christians. Did I miss something in Christine's reply, because I couldn't find it! In my town, its mostly the religious organizations that try to do something for the street people. The Salvation Army just built a big new shelter so those people could get off the street, especially during the winter, when the temperatures sometimes dip to -30 and this winter was especially hard, with temperatures below -45. But, the shelter was built with donations from the public, so maybe, people really do care. A few winters ago, one of the street people, something of a legend around the city, was found frozen to the ground. It was very sad, but I have to say, sometimes they want to stay on the street. He did, he had his friends there, they were the only family he knew. Another man, last year was killed by some teenagers, who just hit him with a baseball bat until he died. He was nothing, just a bundle of dirty rags to those boys. I remember last Xmas going to the IBM, this is where he hung out a lot, asking for money. I forgot to take my transaction slip out of the machine and was just leaving when he touched my sleeve and said, "missus you forgot your paper". He didn't ask me for money, but I gave him some anyway. I'm glad I did now. He probably just bought some cheap wine with it, but maybe he felt happy for a little while. He was killed a few months later. I think the homeless problem is too big to blame on any one segment of society, maybe we all have to take part of the blame, including the homeless themselves. :( Carol
