Ramtron Receives Second Fundamental Enhanced DRAM Patent COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--March 2, 1998--Ramtron International Corporation (NASDAQ:RMTR - news) announced that it has been granted an additional fundamental semiconductor memory patent by the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office. U.S. Patent No. 5,721,862 describes an enhanced dynamic random access memory (EDRAM(R)) with a row register static RAM (SRAM) cache for all device read operations. The EDRAM, developed and marketed by Ramtron subsidiary, Enhanced Memory Systems, Inc. (Enhanced), is the world's fastest dynamic random access memory (DRAM). DRAMs are the most pervasive type of computer memory in the world and are used in a wide variety of systems including personal computers, workstations, and add-on PC boards among others. ''Our growing portfolio of patents further demonstrates Enhanced's leadership position in high performance specialty DRAM technology,'' explains Craig Rhodine, vice president and general manager of Enhanced. ''Our strengthened patent position in industry leading DRAM performance will allow us to expand the number of companies delivering low latency ESDRAM products to the marketplace.'' ESDRAM Products Enhanced announced the development of a 133 MHz Enhanced SDRAM (ESDRAM) in November 1996. This product provides exact pin, function, and timing compatibility with industry SDRAM products, while offering the faster latency and higher sustained bandwidth benefits of EDRAM technology. The ESDRAM has been proposed as a JEDEC superset standard for the SDRAM and DDR SDRAM at JEDEC DRAM committee meetings in Taiwan in September and Phoenix in December. Enhanced recently strengthened its ESDRAM manufacturing capabilities by entering manufacturing agreements with Siemens Semiconductor and IBM Microelectronics. Ramtron/Enhanced Memory Systems, Inc. Enhanced Memory Systems develops and markets patented EDRAM(R) and ESDRAM(tm), high performance specialty memories that combine fast DRAM and SRAM on one chip. Enhanced is headquartered in Colorado Springs, Colorado and is a wholly owned subsidiary of Ramtron International Corporation (NASDAQ:RMTR - news).
