James, I find it hard to fully digest that the only reason man fell was because of Satan. If that was the case then how did lucifer fall if he also was created perfect? Recall Adam and Eve were told by God not to eat of the tree of Knowledge of good and evil, thus they were given the commandment to obey God's word. Yes, Eve was deceived by the serpent but something else just wasn't right. Instead of using scripture against the enemy to make him flee as did Jesus. Listen carefully to the discourse that took place. And he said unto the woman, Yea, hath God said, Ye shall not eat of every tree of the garden? And the woman said unto the serpent, We may eat of the fruit of the trees of the garden: but of the fruit of the tree which is in the midst of the garden, God hath said, Ye shall not eat or it, neither shall ye touch it, lest ye die. First of all, God never said, neither shall ye touch it lest ye die. So we must ask ourselves why did Eve misquote God. It appears that Eve believed she would die instantly if she ate of the fruit because it was of a poisonous nature. In fact makes it very easy to obey the commandment under these conditions. But the circumstances would be quite different if she could be led to believe eating the fruit wouldn't kill her. The serpent goes on telling her that she will not die and malisciously accuses God of holding something back from her. At the serpents suggestions Eve, instead of waiting to ask God about it later entertains the thought that perhaps He is not so benevolent after all. The fruit smells good, looks good, has the ability to make one wise, and now she's told it won't kill her. So what does she do? She disobeys God's commandment and follows after her own lust at the prompting of the serpent, and thus shows us the root of sin for the whole human race.
