Here's something from the Compaq thread I think you'll all enjoy . . .

My emphasis in bold:

I have owned CPQ for some time now. Last summer I started getting pissed because every time a move was made to the upside CPQ announced some news....usually price reductions that dumped the price. The of course the two necessary additions (Tandem and now Digital). I love CPQ. Love the machines. However, they don't seem to give a damn about stock price. I am willing to bet we won't see a good rise til there is very strong insider buying. Then we will know they mean business.

Anyone else notice that? Someone else must have.

SB - It's my guess that it could be a while before Nomai disks show up at retail. I would assume that there are hundreds of products vying for shelf space and for Nomai to get theirs, they'll have to present a compelling argument. I would doubt that going to the buyers at Best Buy or Costco or Frye's and making a sales pitch that boils down to "It's not illegal to carry our disks, so how many would you like to buy?" isn't going to cut it.
I'd bet that a buyer will be well aware of the possibility that the Nomai disk is inferior to that of Iomega and its co-branders and will look very closely at any advantages Nomai would offer a consumer. The only one that I can see is price, and if the earlier reports of pricing prove to be accurate, even that is not compelling.
It will be a long time before Nomai has any chance of having a negative impact on Iomega's sales - at least in the US.
