I do not discount the impact of Microsoft. Furthermore, I fully expect the Federal Government to act, within the Clinton term, to split Microsoft into no less than three companies, one of which would penetrate the e-commerce market.

"Microsoft does not have monopoly power in the business of developing and licensing computer operating systems," Gates said

"As you know, a monopolist, by definition, is a company that has the ability to restrict entry by new firms and unilaterally control price. Microsoft can do neither," Gates said.
