Dear All,

I read the article this morning and encourage all on the thread to take a look. It doesn't go into all the details of the company (no mention of recent growth fundamentals, future plans, etc.) Instead it talks mostly about Charlie's recent campaigns on the Hill in D.C. A summary of what I thought was important:

mentions $1 billion in debt, with no offsetting discussion of what is being done about it.

seems to imply that Charlie thinks that DISH's only shot is the approval of less restrictive local channel regulation.

and then adds to this by portraying Ergen as a 'Wild West' kind of guy who only owns one suit, and who is badly outgunned by the cable media lobby (not a good thing considering point above)

On a positive note, mentions the potential $6b from lawsuit with NewsCorp (but then quotes NewsCorp as saying they broke it off b/c they "couldn't work with the CEO." The most positive news comes at the end of the article, where there is a mention of potential upcoming legislation in favor of more liberal local channel laws.

My take: bad in short term (esp. if you only read the first part of this very long article - 1st page left column, then inside). My only concern is that if the paper's tone is not misleading we will all have to become a little more interested in politics! I'm staying long with my position, but will not accumulate at these levels.
