Ali babble,
Re -- The panic button is not AMD yet but the "Sub-$800" price sticker.

Once AMD goes out of business or dumps its processor business, margins will rise again. Microsoft is not subject to pricing pressure, because no one else can provide Windows.

The Bell is ringing for AMD...

Ali - Re : "...leaving very little room for the expected classic high-margin model of Intel's business. "

Guess how much AMD makes on these?

Yep - zero, nada.

As for Intel's high margins - they make low margins on some chips and high margins on others.

That's why they make Pentium MMX, Pentium II, Deschutes, Tillamook, etc.
