How 'bout something like "Gennifer, if you are questioned directly about our relationship, I'd prefer that you refuse comment, but if that is no longer possible, then of course, I realize you will have to be truthful, irrespective of the consequences." Why? If a reporter were to ask me what I bought at the store this afternoon, why exactly am I under an obligation to tell him the truth? What business is it of his? Here's an example: What prescription drugs have you purchased in the last six months? If you say you don't want to tell me, I'll suspect the worst. And I'll ask you again and again and again.
