Eddy: Re: NANO

Nanometrics, as far as I know, produce thin film measurement systems.
My perception of them is that they have a much larger penetration
into more fabs than Veeco. Veeco's best product is their surface
profiler systems. These are very useful for plasma etch monitoring and a few other things. Nanometrics equipment is useful to many
other sections of the fab: plasma etch, photolithography, thin films,
diffusion. Just speaking for my company, we have 4 of their systems and they are always busy.
Nanometrics has good technology that has been around for a long time.
Is it a good investment? Beats me. As I've said before, my interest
in Silicon Investor is more from a technology point of view.

If you are interested in metrology companies, here are a few others
with similar products:
Rudolph Technology - makers of ellipsometers (similar to NANO)
Bio-Rad - Huge medical instruments Co. that also makes linewidth and
overly metrology systems.
KLA-Tencor - Makers of almost everything in metrology.
Keithley - Makers of wafer testers, but also ion implant metrology systems.
