Shane,

GSM will do wonders for LSI's bottom line, the installed base is not going to dry up and blow away, no matter how much QCOM's minions would like that to be the case. If LSI wants to sell large quantities of chips... GSM is currently where the lions share of the market is. If they also put out a CDMA chip, then all the better.

I read a blurb in the online WSJ that did attribute the VLSI GSM shortfall to Ericsson, but it wasn't related to SEA directly (at least not according to the article). Instead, it was the continuation of an Ericsson effort to drawdown their current chip inventory, most likely in preparation for the next line of products coming to market.

Shane..you are so fortunate...you associate with the right people, and pretty soon they start treating you nice... Next thing we know, Mike will be calling you Sally...OR maybe not!... not THAT nice!
Now about that GSM problem... Perhaps LSI could go into the hand grenade business, and toss one whenever the subject came up...just so long as they have a CDMA alternative ready to go into place to improve the situation. <G>..
OK, all seriousness aside.. good info on the call..though I would like to have seen a hint or two about STB prospects.... we are talking BIG contracts...and INTC sure ain't there..as your info proved.
Capacity is likely under 80 %, IMHO, with plenty of slack to take up before the new FAb comes on line... OK, so they like to call that "full capacity"...but surely they could handle "emergencies" with a 10% reserve and the deferral of another 10% of "current" production of a less lofty priority... Telling me that things aren't burning up the highway yet!! Those two are the biggie for me... good info, Duane.
