Hi Roger: Yes, No, and Skeptical.
1. Yes, I do want the co. to succeed.
2. Yes, I am convinced the BOD always did stand in the way.
3. No, I'm not a spoiler, but I can't "make" anyone believe that.
4. No, I'm not in I told-you-so mode. I am, and have been "skeptical". But again, I can't "make" anyone believe that.
The lawsuit isn't about getting "compensation and restitution" for the prior shareholders. The lawsuit, "if" it goes anywhere is about getting the company to restate their earnings for a good long period. Say, like early 96' (perhaps even late 95') through present..
If they have to do that, and it all comes out clean, then I personally will applaud all of Eric Schmidt's efforts to turn this company around, and the BOD becomes a "moot point", no?
If that happens and it "doesn't" come out clean, a lot of people that have (and probably will) continue to invest on the momentum (if in fact it is only momentum, and not a "true upturn" (I am skeptical that it is), will lose a lot of money.... A "lot" of money.
The current "barrage": ======================
All I did was come back a short vac. and respond to posts directed to, and about me. I'll continue to do that. I'll continue to monitor the stock. I've never said (post February 1997 - very important date), "invest in this stock", or "don't invest in this stock". All I've ever said is "Caveat Emptor".
If in fact, as you say, the company is/will turn-around "in spite of" the a) BOD, b) the competition, and lastly c) the lawsuit then I will applaud that.
I'm not convinced. And the "reason" I'm still here is I'm monitoring the performance, and if it does go sub-7, I beleive I might get back in, this time for "different" reasons.
As far as "atoning for my so-called sins and redeeming the applause of the SI board", well I find that somewhat curious. I know you've been on this thread for a very long time, and I'd like you to know that, I've never even considered that as any motivation on my part. But since you brought that up, here is an email I received this morning regarding what you're talking about (I've edited out the sender information):

Joe -
You'll notice I don't have Vinod in this group. He would be there but I discount most anything written by gold-bugs. They have a disease which is worse than my affliction called Novell.
The hours of work put in by you folks last year was amazing -- and a credit to each of you. It is disappointing to see new people show up on SI and either ignore or discount your efforts on behalf of many of us.
You have always been correct in stating that this is about one thing -- MONEY! As small, and some not so small, shareholders, we are in constant danger of getting screwed by the management of Novell as Young, the BOD and a few others (like that huckster Joe M. -- one of your favorites!) walk away with a pile of cash.
This talk of $20 per share is nonsense. Somebody will get burned by actually believing this BS.
Fortunately, I bought some CPQ due in part to your analysis of their future and I follow your thoughts over there too.
ALL THE BEST! <<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<
I don't make this stuff up Roger. There's no point in it.
I'm taking the time and "bandwidth" here to respond to your post, as you have been a long-time follower of this security. Roger, I don't "own" this board. "Anyone" can post here if they follow the guidelines. I can't influence the movement of this stock any more than anyone else can on these chat boards. People "think" that happens and what happens inevitably is emotion comes into play. Period. The world keeps going on despite what's said here.
As far as working with Novell? Roger, that's "their problem" not mine.
As I said (and as Fred Smart, and DJBEINO, and Seren, and the others who've picked up the flag), are saying, if this is in fact a bona fide turnaround, I'll be the first to applaud it. Someone mentioned "sore loser" or something like that ... that's ridiculous.
Bottom line: ============
1. I posted yesterday to respond. I'll continue to do that.
2. I'll watch the stock. If it turns, then that's great for the folk who got in 7, 8, ~9's, and if it's for real, then the 13's thru 19's who held will be fine. And if it goes to ~24-26 like I though it would in 96' then it's a home-run.
3. If it doesn't, then I'll look to make some "unemotional" money off this company.
Regards,
Joe...
PS: I won't be taking up bandwidth with this type of post in the future so don't be concerned about a "noise factor" <ggg>.
