Platinum Market Commentary (Platinum Guild international, March 3, 1998) "Although it is too early to judge it a fact, it appears that a senior official at Russia's State Reserve for Precious Metals has confirmed Standard Bank's position that Russia's platinum stockpiles have been run down. Reuters referred today to an Interfax news agency report where Valery Goncharov appears to have confirmed this point of many analyst's speculation. If there are no more significant stockpiles of Russian platinum, exports will necessarily be from current production. CPM Group projects the amount of newly refined platinum to be delivered to the international market to increase 0.3% in 1998, while total demand will rise 2.2% in 1998, creating a supply deficit of 253,000 ounces for the year."
