Well, got my first "voice e-mail" today, played the voice part as a .wav file. 337,363 bytes had to be transferred (in addition to the e-mail text itself) in order to be able to hear "Hi, how are you, just testing this feature." E-mail comprises the majority of the traffic carried on the internet - can you imagine if all those letters started taking over 100 times the data to send? I'm telling you - the amount of traffic being generated by more graphically-oriented sites and new applications is increasing much faster than they'll be able to keep up with. You start filling the net with internet telephony and it's going to turn into a self-defeating prospect unless one pays dearly for guaranteed bandwidth and reliability agreements.
