The best I can figure, the thrill is not in capturing the number for yourself but in denying it to your competitor. Nonsense. We frame our numbers, and hang them in the guest bathroom.

David, Au contraire! It's all done in the spirit of pure and simple friendly gamemanship! I rather like my fellow post pilferers--even the ones who open multiple browser copies, post blank or near-blank posts, and generally resort to unvarnished skulduggery to poach a prime post number. I am genuinely thrilled when any threadster in our select and elite group goes for the gold posts and gets them, rather than some lurker or other outsider who wanders in and occupies the prize post numbers through mere happenstance.
