I always thought it was "pump and dump"-hyping the stock (through various media and stock boards) and then after inflating the price "dumping" the stock on the market and having the lemmings hold the bag. I indeed have been noticing this price action, and really cannot understand it. In any normal market a large block of stock sold at below market prices would normally scare the heck of most investors with the resultant price crashing further. Maybe there was a large seller- and the market maker would not bid for the stock at market levels (quite common) but then finds an unexpected large block buyer at a lower level that suprises the market makers? Dunno, but large block selling at below market levels pushing a stock up just does not sound right.
