I agree with your assessment of Ray Tracers. It is a below average game. I bought it earlier today, played it for awhile, and decided it was not worth keeping. It does not have much variety, only slight variations the same kind of racing tracks. There are only so many things you can do. This game was released six months earlier in Japan (I think) and was not received very well. And, keeping up with the tradition of Pax, it has some features that are not explained in the given manual. Furthermore, it has received sub-par reviews. This is an important aspect of any game. If the reviewers don't like it, most likely it isn't worth playing. Of course there are exceptions, but unfortunately Ray Tracers isn't one of them. My opinion is that it will not sell well.

I checked out WCW/Nitro also. (I should mention these both were for the Playstation). I am surprised it is selling so well. WCW is alright, but not something I would think many people would like. The characters seem a little sluggish. There are also a multitude of moves to learn to be able to play competently. This is usually appealing to gamers, as this makes 'conquering' the game more difficult. But there is something to be said for the game that one can start playing without reading the manual and have a good time. Perhaps I am being too critical. I suppose the Nintendo64 version is much better and that would explain the high volume of sales. If I had an N64, I could give a more complete report. Nevertheless, it does not matter what I think, but how many copies THQ sells. In light of the healthy sales figures, I am glad my opinion does not portray what the majority of gamers feel.

To $40 and beyond...
