Holly, I completely agree that it should make no difference whether you are responding to a male or female. I also accept that reactions and responses will differ depending on the perception of the reader.

BUT, I consider it the responders problem if he/she doesn't consider the content of my post. I personally do not wish to "self-edit" my posts to insure that the reader is clueless to my sexual identity.
(I 'm fully aware there a some valid reasons why one would, though.) If a responder conveys an inappropriate attitude simply because of my gender, I choose not to engage in discussion with that person. Real discourse can only be had with individuals whose opinions you respect.

NOT if it means that you feel you have to hide your sexual identity. I'm afraid such practice conveys exactly the opposite.
