David,

Agreed! I for one do not seek to eradicate male- and female-centered differences, rather to eradicate the differences of perception based soley on the gender/sex of the poster, or any other telltale "isms," for that matter.

I can truthfully say that I have only rarely noted sexism or any other ism rearing it's ugly head in responses to my postings, but then I've never been a male here at SI and I've rarely posted without taking into consideration how my post will be perceived because I am thought to be a female.

I agree with Betty that it would be interesting to learn what percentage of males and females use gender/sex-neutral handles or have chosen to identify themselves as opposite their gender/sex.

I should also like to add that I don't lose sleep over this and simply come to SI for the fun it provides.

Holly

<< Sex always matters at some level. I think there is a function located in the ancient reptile portion of our brains that continually sorts humans encountered into one of two categories:

1. Sex Object
2. Threat

Women have the same function in their brains but with different parameters.

Wouldn't it be interesting to see if the distaff side agree with this, and most interesting, what would be those different parameters!
