Jim, Are you spreading fear again with out the facts as they apply to DELL?

MARK MY WORDS. Dell has caused todays stock market down draft due to their BTO. Dell is not being affected by INTCs, CPU, or CPQs problems, they are causing them.

Greg

Totally!
According to some on this thread:
intc is experiencing a slowdown in orders. cpq, hwp, ibm are going to suffer, but dell is going to come out unscathed.
The argument goes that since cpq and ibm are also buying from amd,
they are not buying as much from intc. hwp is a loser company to
start with.
Facts:
intel proclaims slowing demand.
amd announces fabrication snafus, poor yield etc. for their el-cheapo
processors(therefore, they are barely able to meet their quotas and
hence could not be stealing from intc's table).
growing sub-$700 pc market(wich dell has ignored), and which is evidently cannibalizing more expensive workstations(atleast in terms of
a decreasing ASP).
increasing evidence of a looming price war.

I have seen time and again that companies that shun the commodity segment
of the market lose out over the long term.
imho, the only thing saving dell from a crash(to $70 pre-split) at this point is "buy the dip" mentality.
I would also like to add that dell is a good company with a good track
record and very good execution etc., but its hard to imagine that it
can sustain its growth rate given a slowdown in the market.
good luck all!
