Bearded, OEM only install things that their customers are will to pay for--many customers are not willing to pay for Netscape. So (back when Netscape costed money) if Dell wanted to install Netscape, they'd have to eat the cost... Why do that? And in the competitive PC business, if Gateway2000 doesn't bundle Netscape, for instance, they could offer otherwise equivalent machines for $30 less than Dell. Why bother? Especially when they won't lose business for not offering Netscape.

BTW, where are you guys getting this stuff about the price of Windows being raised by $10? Please provide a link, thanks.

I picked this post off of Yahoo, and wondered if it worthy of comment.

I also noted Mr. Gates said he could change browsers in seconds which only proves I still know nothing about computers. I installed IE4 and liked the full screen effect but disliked the feeling that it was "taking over my computer". When I uninstalled it, it was fast but far from complete. My computer has never been quite the same.
