Duane,

Just because you're paranoid doesn't mean that they're not after you. <g>

Hi, TSO...new to the thread in the last week (however, l admit to having 'lurked' for a long spell).

CNBC just reported that MOT has, minutes ago, issued an earnings warning---essentially flat Qtr-over-Qtr. I would appreciate your thoughts and, of course, those of anyone else on the 'pleasant thread' who cares to respond, as to what this may mean to LSI's performance tomorrow. Have to leave town for a while tomorrow so want to get my huge buy order in before the market opens ;-)
TIA
Wolf

TSO: Carl Johnson changing his tune, getting more bearish about semi-equips in general but LIKES your DPMI:
techweb.com

and what Briefing had to say about another paradigm shift:

PC Industry: It's not a stretch to connect the warning from Compaq's CFO with
Intel's warning and conclude that something is amiss in the PC industry. Nobody
wants to say it, but perhaps Kurlak is right: unit volume is not increasing enough to
offset price declines.

Tech Sector: If Intel, semis, and PCs are all in trouble, isn't the entire tech sector in
for a beating? On Thursday, the answer will almost certainly be yes. Beyond the
kneejerk response, however, lies another possibility. Perhaps we are seeing
evidence of the much discussed paradigm shift in tech -- away from processor
speed and toward bandwidth. If that's the case, networkers and telecoms should
fare much better than semis and PCs.

----

Unfortunately in both cases note the unit volume slowdown - if true time to say que sera sera and say adios to the semis. My adios to the semi-equips is already done. At some point people are going to say dump 'em all. We have AMD disappointment, NSM(?), TXN(likely), INTC, MOT (now) - pretty much a very very broad spectrum of companies. Also saw some rumbles in the jungle about weakness in analog(?) though this would be a tad more difficult for me to believe.

Also note that Corrigan was right on. The commodity people are being smashed (MOT included in this "commodity" group) but no warnings (YET) from the ALTR's and LSI's of the world, i.e., the networking oriented and more specialized companies. There is a chance that networking oriented companies have a chance but still I do suspect that with no leadership all the semis will eventually crumble. [Unless a lot of this is already priced into the stocks!!!!]

Citing a sight at this site

-OR- Putting it all together

I have recently come across a URL that puts it all together.

Mgt Discussion
SEC Filings

It is a little slow, but well worthwhile (like my profile)<g>

Take charting, for instance. It lets you plot:
Price and volume
1 Minute intraday, week, month, 3 months, year to date, year,
...3 years, 5 years
Against DJIA, S&P 500, NASDAQ and/or up to 8 stocks on a % basis
Use a Moving Average that is No, 25, 50, 100 or 200 points
Shows a [S] on the chart where there was a stock split
And (biggie) a red dot where there was a news announcement

I do the news because after 30-odd years in the market (and each
year is odd) I came to the conclusion early that the dissemination
of information to the public was what made stocks move. I can now
ignore the data, go right to a graph and fish out news stories that
made a stock move, or when a story hits, see if it has an affect.
The site is Quicken/Excite. Explore and tell me what you think.
This week's trading in LSI:

Now I know that some of you know about it, but why didn't YOU tell ME?

Duane,

Should we do the SLC and MBC thing again? I might consider being a mangy bear this time. Just a thought.......still looking it over. Any comments on this chart?

///Off Thread for Duane or anyone who wishes to comment///

I'm interested in trading options on LSI, and am in the process of establishing an options account. I assume you do most of your trading over the web (that is what I plan to do). Can you recommend any brokers with LOW commissions? It is always a trade-off between commissions and service, but Schwab wants $35 minimum, and I don't need that much hand-holding. Also, do you have your eyes on any particular calls (I'm anxious to get some OCT 25s/30s). As always thank you for your input/advice.

PS. E!, for your new SLC/MBC contest, my buy order is in at 21 1/2, therefore, we will never reach it. I go with 27. <g>

**OT** Index Ratings

Duane,

OK, here's your follow-up.

BTW Have you found the cure to S.I. addiction? Let's do a start-up with it. Gosh, what a market!
We could be rich!!! The best thing is that we can't lose. We'll either sell a ton of the stuff, or S.I. will buy us out so they can destroy it all. Are you listening? Duane?

Are you lurking??.....hmmmmmm????? You are! You are lurking!!

Not really cured, eh???? <gg>

E!
