Ken,
Download speed from the web site is good (by my standards).
My experience is typically under 2 minutes to get one day's datafile (about 10,000 stocks). (Folks using some other services have posted stories of two separate downloads each day, lasting 10s of minutes for each batch of stocks -Ouch!). All of us wish the data was available earlier in the evening. We've been told this is something they are working to change through their data source(s).

I'm glad that Q+ people were able to help you. They are good people, with, IMO, a good customer-service mindset. They have been responsive for many of us when we had problems using the product.

Regards,
Paul

Ken:

That brings up a question I will pose here. This download was for 88 symbols in the demo. It was also for 13 days. Total time, just about 5 minutes on the dot. That's not very fast. So, for you folks who are attempting to download the market each night, how long does that take? Do you do it over the phone or on the net?

I just switched over to QP from Dial Data. On a 33.6 modem, for one day's worth of data on 11,200 issues (including split adjustments, dividend declarations, mergers and other trivia), it takes me 53 seconds to download from the time I connect. I use the toll-free BBS because I keep all my TA stuff on my laptop and I use a cable modem (not usable on the laptop) for Internet service.

Without seeming to gush too much, I think QP is excellent value for the money. Dial Data charges me $40/month, and every time I hear of a new stock I have to download it from the service. With QP it's all right there on your hard drive. All stocks; all exchanges.

Just one trader's opinion...

Ken, I am a beta tester for version 2, but I still download version 1 updates every evening. I have a pentium 133 with a 28.8 modem. It takes 45-50 seconds to download the entire database via the internet (the phone connection does not work from Canada), and another 6 minutes to update the charts (offline, of course).

With respect to your question "Do I have to have all the symbols in my database and on my drive to do this. Is there a way to do a scan on data that is only on the Q+ base and not on my machine? Hope that's clear enough." I am not quite certain what you mean by this question. But base on my best guess the answer is no. You can only scan the data stored in the Quotes Plus database that is stored on the hard disk in your computer.

I was glad to hear you were able to successfully download the updates for the demo version. However, I apologize for giving you bad information about not being able to download updates for the demo version of Quotes Plus by phone.
