Well Melissa, I must 'fess up to the cause of my euphoria. I have a traditional IRA with lots of high beta stocks including PSFT, DELL, TLAB, NETA etc. I did some exhaustive analysis on whether to convert to a Roth, and discovered that I'd be a fool not to convert. However, the tax bite over the next four years will be huge! This has put me in the strangely ambivalent position of being happy regardless of what the market does. If it tanks my tax bill goes down, and hey -- I know with good quality stocks it'll be back. And if it goes up I can sing "We're in the money ...". Of course, I'll need a second mortgage to afford the taxes (and the interest is tax deductible).
