Just to lay my cards on the table - I'm short
htch
apm
spyders
oex 510 and 515 calls
1 S&P @1046.80 (sob!)
long oex march 495 and 500 puts.
covered a short msft for a small loss this a.m.

That hedges about 75% of my stock portfolio. In addition, cash is about 66% of the stocks, not counting the cash from the shorts.

I also am long California real estate, in case anybody needs a house in the wine country, or a super lot with fantastic views of the Pacific Ocean. (But that's another story, unfortunately.)

Still looking for shorts, and PX's candidates will be fun to research this weekend.

Today was a good example (for me) of how demanding this game can be. If I'm holding the S&P contract as a trade, I should have sold after the first half hour; if it's a hedge, hold til the last margin call. Very tension-making. I'm not good at handling split personalities.

Lawrence, you'd really sell puts in this market?

BTW, I just noticed that after the roller coaster of the past two days, the option volatility index is DOWN 2 points today.

Isn't there a theory that falling volatility presages a change in trend??

>Right now I'm about 10:1 Long:Short.

Really??? You been making bearish squeals for as long as I can remember? What significant positions do you have, anyway?

ELNK: Don't you dare short this sucker. You'll regret it, trust me.
MU: Can't figure this one out. Something holding it up, but no idea what? Fundamentals stinko.

PX,
My 65% cash reference was to the technology portion of my portfolio. Luckily, the majority of my holdings are in GE, MRK, F, sector funds, and S & P 500 index. Granted, GE and Merck are desperately overvalued but I won't sell GE until Jack gets hit by a bus ( He is retiring relatively soon but will still wield influence). Merck is a hell of a demographic play. Ford, I caught lucky. The rest balance my portfolio.
My one and only in tech is Unisys.

As for shorts, I'm not smart enough and I know it.
