Mike:
I agree, great post...SI and particularly the posting of AGE downgrades to Accumulate and then Reduce (or something like these two) really helped me in my decision making process re Compaq. There was a lukewarm preannouncement early in the week, and the feared actual preannouncement happened courtesy of CPQ management Fri. after the close (how kind of mgmt. to give this piece of news to those long to help them with their weekend plans!)
That being said, CPQ will attract Buyers at some point and that price will hold. Where it is I can only conjecture.

Mike you're absolutely right, I think CPQ handled this well they warned last week of pricing pressures and yesterday of the earnings shortfall well in advance, they have obviously been guiding analysts lower versus that idiot Ellison at ORCL who bragged about how great they're doing and then came out with lousy earnings a week ahead of their scheduled release date. The writing was on the wall we just missed it in all of this DELL insanity.

Mike, I can't see any reason for the present situation to be anyone's responsibility but mine. No announcement would have changed anything for me, so I hold and wait on. As you may guess, I'm in no position to be proud of where I am re:cpq, but I try always to find out reasons to stay with a stock,(and I give them only a fair judgement, now,IMO) or cut bait period. I am getting better with this tactic over the year now of stock trading and investing, and I feel safe enough based on all I have read. Things definitely can change with passing events, as ALWAYS, but right now I hang with the company.

Mike,
Good post. You state this much more eloquently and logically then I have the talent or patience to. I don't care for all the crying. As I said in an earlier post, we are all big people playing a big people's game. There is risk for potential reward. Thank you for your fine post.
