It would be unfair to compare Compaq to Dell. Dell possesses a distribution model that is the envy of the industry. As someone who has made a fortune being long Dell the last 2 years told me, the reason that Intel had to issue its warning was directly due to Compaq's stuffing of its distribution channels. Now Compaq has to worry about unloading computers with older chips and work out all kinds of financial concessions with its dealer network, while mighty Dell, with no more than 6 days worth of inventory, is the only player offering the lastest 333Mhz. chip. It's not even a fair fight at this point.

The writing is on the wall, folks. What would you do if you were a portfolio manager looking for some industry representation in your portfolio.
