Linkster, it really wouldn't bother me because withdrawals from a traditional IRA were already subject to state income taxes. Perhaps those states ought to "Rothize" those plans allowing you to pay taxes on 1/4 of the tax-deferred portion of your IRA over the next four years. Alternatively, you could move to a state like Washington where we have no income taxes.

Appreciate your concern. So far, California is not one of them, thank God. I can only hope that Congress doesn't get greedy by the time I'm ready for withdrawals. If they do, you can find me on the Beach somewhere exotic (and I don't mean Santa Monica). If you haven't tuned into the tax board at the Motley Fool, would recommend it highly for VERY informative feedback, as well as the RothIRA web site at rothira.com, and the tax board at boards.fool.com
