I was not addressing the issue of manipulation. I was addressing he issue of slander.

Do you have any comments on the issue that I raised?

Jessi, 80,000 people a day log onto SI. Why do you suppose they do it?
In my opinion, most of them are here for information and insights into potential investments.

Jessi,

Nobody on these threads really believes that posters on these threads can move the price of a stock significantly. Of course, people do act on what is posted here, and therefore impact the market in a minuscule way, but it it insignificant.

Mr. Davef contends that this thread is a big market mover but he really doesn't believe it. I have taken him to task on this and he could not refute my position. Davef still continues to make the same claims, but I believe that this is because he has nothing of substance to support his position.

There is one instance where such posts may be of influence. If news is released, i.e. negative or positive earnings surprise, change in major brokerage rating, or merger/LBO type news and subsequently re-posted on a stock thread could contribute to a price movement, but lets face it, the real movement is caused by the news. The posting is secondary in that it aids in timely distribution of the news, not really a contributory cause by a poster on the thread.

Again, 100,000+ type stocks are not significantly affected by these posts. Low volume stocks and penny stocks are quite another matter.
