Mohan,

Thanks for the article.

I agree wholeheartedly that COMPAQ's problems are multifaceted, especially in comparison with Intel's.

On top of all the underpinning factors already alluded to, I also heard that Eckhard and friends aren't working very hard to rectify the negative PR currently permeating the market, for they actually need the sentiment support for (possibly) laying off massive number of (DEC mostly) employees.

With such uncertainties in business outlook, Pfeiffer undoubtedly has more variables to deal with (which he doesn't need) in shaping up the company's integration plan with DEC.

Periodically, CPQ succeeded in working itself into a hole. (Last time was the delayed transition into the Pentium chip).

Hello Mohan:
Thanks for the URL/news.
I am puzzled by the following in the news.

"The news could create difficulties for Compaq's proposed acquisition of Digital Equipment. While the deal's mechanics are unchanged, a decline in Compaq's stock price will make the deal more expensive."

Difficulties for whom? buyer (CPQ) or the seller (DEC)?.
But why should it make the deal more expensive? (I am comparing with Tandem deal, where they offered 0.22 shares. Here they are offering $ 30.00 + 0.945 shares.)

Just a few points to ponder with your morning coffee.
Regards,
Satish
