I keep hearing all these dellites, talking up the virtues of their more expensive machines. I have the task of buying a couple of new PC's in the next couple of months, and what I want to do is put off the purchase as long as I can. Undoubtedly, machines that the dellites are selling 2-3 thousand today will be available for much less one or two months down the road. And another thing, in my opinion the premium that goes along with the new cadillac computers is money ill spent. I prefer to buy models a couple of notches down the chain. The additional performance usually is not an issue in business. Hell, I will be upgrading some 486's that are still in service. Don't you think a P233 will be a substantive improvement. Others are probably delaying as well to decrease their computer expense. I have heard post after post talking up the marginal gains that would be Dell users have as an advantage, I think its bunk. Yes they are focused on the high end, but so what. About CPQ stock as of late. I see tomorrows action at over 100 mil shares. They will probably take the estimates down to zero, and then next month, CPQ will make 2 or 3 cents, and the street will see it as a plus. I also think CPQ will make sure to take care of the problems quickly as to start moving up again. This big of difference makes me think they might take a big charge, and try to put the kitchen sink in it. There would be no good reason to let the bad news linger. One more point, if Mason was sure monday they wouldn't make he wouldn't have made those vague comments about making the quarter. So, since they new they were going to miss, they might as well make things easier for the up coming periods. The DEC deal..who knows... Could get voted down if CPQ stays low, if so, CPQ probably initiates a 1-2 billion$ share buyback.
