Comments... 1) David Kuspa! I said I never read SI "messages." You know, those private messages you can send. Of course I read SI posts here! 2) MCI problems today, so access to orders7 may be slow depending on where you live on the internet. Do a traceroute to decide if the problem affects you. By the end of the week we will have at least 2 express servers available, using the new software, very plain html pages, on different T3s. 3) I express sympathies to NASDAQ, specifically to John Hicky, who was head of the technical department in Trumbell, CT. We were really upset when he explained that a chipmunk ate a power cable in Shelton, CT, and that was why NASDAQ electronic trading systems were down for the entire afternoon, one rainy day 3 years ago. I never beleived it was a chipmunk. Well, John, I have been there, and all i can say is, Sorry I doubted you, and I am glad I was not that chipmunk, or the Datek Online squirrel. Don't eat power cables. Unless you want your insides to end up a yard from your fried skin. 4) Datek Online is in the business of keeping our systems the fastest and most direct way to access the markets. We are constantly improving our order processing systems. You may have noticed that there WAS NO DELAY IN ORDER PROCESSING THIS MORNING, thanks to a new, very big, fast, fault-tolerant backend server. So, for example, the processing time on your confirmation very closely matched the enter-time. Future software upgrades are going to make our systems much faster. 5) Options- I will be completely honest, as always. Options are several months away. We are working on it. When we are finished, you will have the most direct, fastest, least expensive options system available on the internet. Will it be done in 1998? Yes. Will it be done in May? Maybe. -Peter Stern Chief technology officer Datek Online
