Why do you think Compaqs inventory build up has anything to do with them using AMD chips? It might because IBM and others beat them to market with K6 boxes but know where have I read that the inventory pile up is skewed toward K6 boxes. i have heard that is stuffed with Intel boxes which makes more sense because we know of Intel can yield the chips and that the Intel boxes sell for more money...hence it makes more sense that they are piling up vs the K6 boxes for which there is a shortage of chip.
Blaming Compaqs woes on buying AMD chips is akin blaming it on voodoo or bad Karma or something.
