Hi MJ,

Here's what's behind my app partner statement. In the ERP world, SAP does
not push the DB. It is a commodity and since IFMX has a small % of
that, there is no reason for SAP to show favoritism to IFMX. The same is
true of the other ERP vendors. I've been told by IFMX people that Peoplesoft
doesn't seem to want to work with IFMX, possibly due to high level conflicts.
I know Duffield and Phil White appeared to be on good terms but I don't know
about the current mgmnt. Most of these relationships are at the feet-on-the-street level but again, the Oracle dominance is there. There is no reason for the apps vendors to go against the flow. You always hear about
the "co-opitition" FUD (being a partner & competitor to Oracle at the same time)
but the reality is, a buck is a buck to the sales rep and it's not worth their time for them to try to convince a company to change their DB standard.

There is actually alot of Sybase out there, especially in the financial services area.. I also saw a CIS (or SFA) vendor presentation a couple of weeks ago that said IFMX had the absolute smallest % of their business, based on installed accounts. Additionally, IFMX got rid of most of their partner relation people last year in the layoffs. It will take a while for IFMX to get where the other folks are.
to rebuild it.

On the Q4 or Q1 question. Many customers did hold off until the restatement.
I think your additional statement is correct, except that in Nov bobf said he
thought the company might be profitable by the middle of 1998. Obviously he
beat his own expectation. But if I was a customer and had to buy before last
month, I would have gone elsewhere. I guess what I'm saying is, I don't believe
the affect of what you mention is large, but it is something to think about.

IMHO

Thank you for the thought provoking comments.
