>>I thought iDEN was TDMA, which they did mention in the earnings
warnings. Did you interpret it to mean the weakening in U.S. was for the CDMA portion of their business? Or just that since they didn't
SPECIFICALLY mention iDEN, you assume that this part of their business
is doing fine? I would have thought that if the iDEN phone sales were
doing all right, they would have broken this out and mentioned this.>>

iDEN's success in Nextel's distribution channel has got to give Motorola some pause for concern, especially as they have attempted to also carve out new business in the CDMA sector. Fact is, Nextel is taking business away from traditional cellular and the new digital cellular players. This has created some sting and is perhaps part of the reason why Primco pulled out of their contract. I don't think it was just the equipment and switching failures that caused created contractual problems. You don't just pulled out from a $750 million CDMA contract - unless of course your supplier was creating better arrows for the competition to kill you with.

That's why I think iDEN's success was kept under wraps. iDEN is making big inroads in many businesses. Nextel's aggressiveness on price proves they have a lot of room to go further.

Folks, watch out for the new data apps and phones to be announced later this year. I think we are in for some great surprises. Mobile workers need a reliable all-national digital network that does not fade in and out. Nextel's transmission signal is very strong compared to CDMA. Its much better suited for data-links, internet access, etc.

We are still only in Chapter 1 of a very exciting story.

Good luck!
