From what I understand, having emailed the "FOOL" reporter who published his analysis the other day, and from another source or two, they have already reduced the number of dealers in the channel substantially, they have decreased the price protection significantly, and their "channel assembly" concept (if I have a glimmer as to how that might work) will effectively off load "some" actually construction of the PCs closer to the customer sites and hence provide faster response than even DELL which has to assemble in the factory and then ship.

They have a lot going at this point which may result in improvements starting in the second quarter... if they want them to show. There's still the "rationale" of doing poorly in order to justify the layoff of 20,000 odd folks as part of the DEC buy.

Eh?

Doug

Perhaps the best way for CPQ to un-stuff the channel is for CPQ to provide their disgrunteled shareholders with free computers from their excess inventory as a token gesture of apology for slashing shareholder equity.

I don't know about you, but I like the idea and it's better then nothing.
