C is not the only language to run on UNIX boxes. Where I work, we have Fortran and COBOL compilers on UNIX boxes. We also use Perl, which is not dependent on C. Also, UNIX can be used as a language itself. UNIX shell scripts are used extensively to perform all kinds of tasks without making references to C.

I hope you are right. I stand corrected, but I still think that Java is a pioneering technology, and the world is awash with the dead bodies of companies and systems that went against the WintelCo consortium.. I predict Java will work but not dominate, NC's will be a bit player, Sun will make money on it's excellent servers, and the Wintelco monopoly will only get stronger. Java is a bit iffy right now IN BROAD acceptance, and will have good but limited success. I honestly believe that. We'll see Let's convene in 2 years in this thread, as we'll talk about it OK ? take care jean
