Pushing SparQ or 2GB JAZ

The $1 is the additional manufacturing cost. I think for a SparQ or a 2GB-JAZ one would pay $20 additional (i.e. $120 instead of $100, I don't know the exact price) to have this feature because it is a very very high benefit. It really finishes with media confusion on the desk or at any other place where storage media laying around. I think it is a significant simplification for the business.
Sold for additional $20 that means a retail price rise of roughly $13 at additional manufacturing cost of $1! The additional >$10 net revenues are the benefit for the shareholders. Furthermore: Once such a product would have been introduced who then would buy "naked" cartridges (with no electronic index display) any longer? I am sure, the extra $20 won't be a significant handicap neither for a professional user nor for the freak at home.
But the benefits for the investors come From the additional $20 for several hundred thousand units

Regards
Andreas

Article on page 162 of the April issue of CMP Windows Magazine:

Jaz 2GB Shows Bigger Is Not Best

Last paragraph:
"Still, the Jaz 2GB's competitor, the SyQuest SyJet 1.5GB on our WinList, remains the better choice. Though offering smaller capacity (1.5GB), the SyJet copied files 5 percent faster on the same system, and its price difference per megabyte for media is a healthy 30 percent less. The SyJet 1.5GB also costs $350 less than the external Jaz 2GB drive, and $250 less than the internal model."
