He advised that it should not be long before the rumor hits the street.

How do we know it hasn't hit and then run away? Since i've already heard the rumor then it's usually safe to say it is very old and has already hit the street.

IBM will not and is not buying WDC. WDC has a different business model than IBM.

IBM is vertically integrated. WDC assemblies HDDs, and buys heads and disks.

IBM sells in average to high margin segments. WDC sells to low to average margin segments, primarily in the desktop market. I hear that IBM is not interested in competing in the desktop.

However, I do expect an announcement from IBM/WDC that will drastically affect the DD industry.
