Benedict - I agree that specifics drive the decision.

It seems embedded system apps are in unique situation
if they decide to go with java, etc., in that java will
be unstable for awhile since it is still being defined.

I'm not sure how radical the changes to java os will be over
the next few years, but I was told to expect that there
will probably be a couple more significant "upgrades" before
things become firm. Based on what I've read, going from
JDK 1.0 to 1.1 caused developers problems; haven't heard
much about the transition to JDK 1.2 and who knows what
will occur in going to JDK 1.3 (?) or 2.0 (?).
