A note on ALYD's international relationships...

I've always poked fun at alliances because, most times, they amount to absolutely nothing. In ALYD's case, it looks like a mixture of gold dust and gold.

As far as I can find out, ALYD has a major presence in South Africa. Because of apartheid, IBM did not do business over there so the majority of their code is Natural, for which ALYD is considered to be the industry leader. We've seen Natural contracts in the past and you can take it to the bank we'll see Natural contracts in the future.

As for Australia, I haven't heard about anything cooking over there (save fried dingo), so I think this alliance was for strategic reasons.

As for Poland, I hear they are just now getting around to dealing with their Y2K problems and, yes, ALYD has at least got a foot in the door. So, while good things may happen here, I don't think we're talking short-term-- but who knows.

Funny thing is, ALYD brass was spotted a few days ago in yet another foreign country on yet another continent. (gg)
